With all the puppets being hand painted each one is slightly different.  One thing that needs to be the same is eye and mouth space.  One eye to low or too far off would make the puppet look rather strange.  It takes six months to train to be a painter and that is if you already have an artistic flare.  

To ensure that each puppet looked right the painters used Masks each mask would be used hundreds of times over.  Although crudely made then ensure each puppets spacing is perfect.
 

To make sure all puppets were painted the correct colours and designs a painters master copy would be painted and used for reference.
